The climatePhuket's climate is tropical, so it’s always warm. There are two very hot periods, the first between April and May, when it averages between 30-36 degrees Celsius with the occasional thunderstorm bringing some heat relief. It can also be very hot between September and October, and October can also be rainy. Our most recent visit was in February/March this year and the weather was perfect. Visit the island attractionsThere is so much to see and do on the island. Apart from the frantic nightlife, you can be driven around the island in a day, taking in the beaches, rain forests and mountains. Also visit the temples, or Wats, and you should see the Big Buddha on the southern side of the island. Not officially open yet, but already the island's most popular tourist attraction. Big Buddha is on the highest mountain and is 25 metres across the base and 45 metres tall. A very impressive sight, with photographic views over Phuket City. Patong nightlife and shoppingAll the excitement of Patong's nightlife is close by: bars, restaurants, food stalls, markets, shop till you drop (and the Thai’s love to barter at the stalls over prices). Eating of your choice is not a problem with restaurants serving foods from every country. Thaweewong Road (the beach road, or number one road) has dozens of eating places; Bangla Road is the main bar and entertainment area with hundreds of bars running off Bangla; Rat-U-Thit Road (number 2 road) has restaurants side by side and there are more restaurants in Sawatdirak Road, including the best Italian Café outside of Italy - try one of the pizzas. On the corner of Patong Beach Road and Rat-U-Thit there is (by day) a car park, which at sunset becomes the Patong Food Park with more than 6 restaurants. The one on the corner is our pick; it’s opposite the Patong Premier Resort and operated by a wonderful Thai chap call Cud and his family. Try it. Phuket, Thailand …… how to get thereLocated in the brilliant sparkling waters of the Andaman Sea, Phuket is just over an hour's flying time from Bangkok or Singapore. Jetstar fly Darwin to Singapore daily and there are connecting flights with Tiger Airways from Singapore to Phuket. Check out www.tigerairways.com for some budget fares. TigerAir is an excellent international carrier, with new aircraft, snacks & drinks available for purchase on board and you can select your own seat or upgrade your baggage allowance when you book online. |
